Uganda will officially unveil its chapter of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
The grand launch is expected to be presided over by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, following an invitation from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chaired by First Lady Janet Museveni, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Sports.
“This high-level continental event marks a significant milestone in our sports tourism sector and sets the stage for the prestigious AFCON 2027 which will be hosted on Ugandan soil for the first time ever,” said Peter Ogwang, Uganda’s State Minister for Sports, via his official X (formerly Twitter) page.
With the tournament just days away, the launch ceremony is expected to not only drum up public excitement but also affirm Uganda’s preparedness to co-host Africa’s second most prestigious football competition alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

🏆 CHAN 2024: Group Stages and Host Venues
Set to run from August 2 to 30, 2025, the CHAN 2024 tournament will feature 19 national teams, all composed exclusively of players competing in their respective domestic leagues.
Here’s how the group stage and host venues will be arranged across the PAMOJA co-hosting trio:
•Group A: Will be hosted in Kenya at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Teams: Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and host nation Kenya.
•Groups B & D: Will be staged in Tanzania, split between the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and Amaan Stadium.
Teams:
•Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso
•Group D: Central African Republic, Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, Sudan, Nigeria
•Group C: Will be hosted at Uganda’s revamped Mandela National Stadium (Namboole).
Teams: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Algeria, and South Africa.
