Ugandan football fans have once again proved that when it comes to creativity and humor, nobody does it better. During Uganda’s CHAN clash against South Africa at Namboole, the action on the pitch was exciting—but the real show was in the stands, where fans turned their jerseys into walking comedy shows.

Instead of the usual names and numbers, Ugandans showed up with slogans that had the entire stadium (and the internet) in stitches.

One bold fan rocked a jersey reading “AVOID POOR WOMEN”, while another made a political shout with “MUSEVENI AJJEKO ESSIMU” (loosely meaning “Museveni has switched off his phone”). The cheeky jab referenced the President’s well-known promise to reward the national team with money for every win—a promise fans believe has since gone unanswered.

The creativity didn’t stop there. Another fan had a philosophical twist to his shirt, declaring:

“A PRISONER IS MORE FREE THAN A MAN WHO PROMISED A WOMAN MONEY.”

Meanwhile, others added pure Ugandan banter to the mix, including:

“OLABA NKUBA, MAN U ATTE SOUTH AFRICA” and “OBUFUMBO NJAGALA. BWA DAY.”

By the end of the game, these jerseys had gone viral, sparking laughter and endless debate online. Even international journalist Larry Madowo shared them on X (formerly Twitter), asking: “Dear Ugandans, what’s going on over there?”

Once again, Ugandan fans showed the world that whether the team wins or loses, the fun and creativity in the stands will always steal the show.
