This announcement was made today by the Kampala Capital City Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki during a presser in which she was addressing media on the KCCA journey for Financial 2024/25 and prospects for Financial 2025/26.

“I am excited to announce the return of a city celebration, the Kampala City Festival 2025. The launch shall be on 6th August 2025 at City Hall and the Festival date shall be announced on that day. It’s going to be bigger, better, and bolder,” said the KCCA Executive Director.

The Kampala City Festival was initiated 2012 by Jennifer Musisi Ssemakula who was then serving as the KCCA Executive Director.Held every first week of October, the festival had turned into an annual event that brought together different residents in and outside Kampala in one event to celebrate their City, culture and Uganda’s Independence irrespective of language, background, social status, creed or political alignment.

The festival was last held in 2017. It was specifically called off in 2018 as KCCA cited reasons like refocusing on the key priorities of the City.

According to the City Authority, all contributions from the sponsors of that year’s festival (2018) were to be used to improve the status of some schools and health centres across Kampala. The task included getting rid of asbestos roofs in all KCCA schools where they still existed among other priorities.
