Have you ever imagined controlling your devices with a subtle hand or finger gesture? I am talking about that computer or tablet you own.

Yes! This is now going to be possible after a breakthrough technological innovation of a smart wristband which has been designed by researchers at Meta’s Reality Lab which focuses on virtual and augmented reality.

It works using a technique called electromyography (EMG)
The technology relies on AI to make sense of these muscle signals. This research turns intent and muscle signals into seamless computer control and according to Meta, it will redefine how we interact with computers—intuitive, precise, and ready for the future.

The wristband can work without any need of getting implants or surgery. It only reads your mind by predicting your movements. This means, it detects intention before you move using muscle signals. The technology is ideally designed for people with motor disabilities and paralysis. With it, you can write messages, control the cursor and navigate through all apps with mere gestures. This means, it may soon replace a mouse and keyboard.

Meta, formerly Facebook has been working on this cutting edge technology since 2014.The tech giant has been involved in various discoveries and innovations, particularly in social media, artificial intelligence, and virtual/augmented reality. Some key areas include: the development of core social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp; advancements in AI, including models, libraries, and datasets for research; and pioneering virtual reality through products like Meta Quest and the development of Horizon Workrooms.
